Additional details

Safety on the job site is a prime consideration and will be constantly emphasized.  It is the responsibility of everyone on the jobsite to stay alert, work safely, and speak up if unsafe practices are witnessed.  It is mandatory that all volunteers working on site must read and sign this document.

1.     Everyone working on site should be appropriately dressed. Avoid ill-fitting or loose clothing as it can be hazardous.  Safety shoes or boots are recommended; however, tennis shoes will be allowed.  Open-toed shoes will not be allowed.  Shorts are allowed, however full-length pants are recommended.

2.      Hard hats are to be worn during rough framing, when work is taking place overhead, or when directed by the site supervisor.  Hard hats are available in the construction trailer.

3.      Safety glasses should always be worn.  Safety glasses are available in construction trailer.

4.      Horseplay will not be tolerated.

5.      Nobody should perform any work tasks that they do not feel comfortable performing.

6.      Be honest about your experience with different tools and ask for training or a demonstration if you have limited experience.

7.      Possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages and other drugs (other than OTC drugs and those prescribed by a competent medical professional) will not be permitted at the construction site.  Anyone who appears to be under the in fluence of alcohol or other drugs will be instructed to leave the job site.

8.      Use of tobacco or nicotine products is not allowed on the job site.

9.      Equipment (e.g. ladders, scaffolds, electrical cords, tools, etc.) will be inspected periodically.  Items which are deemed unsafe/unserviceable will be removed from service and either repaired or disposed of as appropriate.  Any equipment that appears to be defective should be brought to the attention of the site supervisor immediately.

10.  The site safety supervisor reserves the right to remove anyone from the site that is not working in a safe manner.

11.  Always us proper lifting techniques: Slowly lift by straightening your hips and knees (not your back). Keep your backstraight, and don't twist as you lift. Hold the load as close to your body as possible, at the level of your belly button. Use your feet to change direction, taking small steps.

12.  Lifting Restrictions: Individuals can lift up to 50 lbs. independently using proper lifting techniques. Items weighing between 50 – 80 lbs. require a partner lift of two people. Items that are over 80lbs. mechanical assistance shall be used. If mechanical assistance is not reasonable, a team lift can be utilized where no parties lift more than 40 lbs.  It is important to know your own limits and ask for help when needed regardless of the item’s weight.

13.  SAFETY IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY,WATCH OUT FOR EACH OTHER AND SPEAK UP IF SOMETHING FEELS WRONG!
